The E-Learning Gap
Technology in the classroom isn’t new, but the rapid shift during COVID-19 exposed gaps in access to quality education while institutions struggled to meet the ever-changing needs of students worldwide. The eLearning gap remains a pressing challenge, particularly in regions like the Caribbean. Access to quality education is uneven, with many learners facing barriers such as outdated resources, limited internet connectivity, insufficient access to required reading materials and devices, inadequate tools for children with special needs, and a lack of localised content.
We are passionate about bridging this divide and transforming eLearning into a powerful tool for equity and empowerment.
This year, we proudly participated in the Jamaica Book Festival, joining key partners like UNICEF, Carlong Readers, and dedicated local educators who go above and beyond for Jamaica’s students. Our role at the event was to engage students in how technology can empower their studies and to promote the free resources provided by the Ministry of Education and UNICEF partners.
The Jamaica Book Festival
The Jamaica Book Festival is an exciting new initiative that celebrates our children, literature, culture, and the transformative power of books — and we were thrilled to be part of it.
This event gave us a unique opportunity to meet students face-to-face and share how technology can support their learning journeys. During our interactive talk with the students, we explored how technology as a tool could either support or hinder their studies, empowering them to make intentional and responsible choices in how they use their devices. A majority of the room revealed that they have read via their tablets or phones before — proof that the potential for eLearning is immense!
It was inspiring to exchange ideas with authors, educators, and students, all united by the goal of shaping a brighter future for education.
BookFusion for Students
We believe that eLearning should be accessible, inclusive, and transformative. That’s why we’ve built a platform designed to address key challenges in education with features like:
- Accessible Anytime, Anywhere: Students can access resources both online and offline on any device, including phones. That way, students with poor connection at home or limited access to devices, won’t have to worry.
- Localised Content: Our platform is affordable and easy to use for local publishers and authors. This allows us to provide localised textbooks, readers and stories that resonate with students’ realities and experiences
- Dynamic Learning Tools: No other reader does this better than we do. With features like advanced annotations, text-to-speech, and searchable highlight banks, BookFusion makes studying interactive and engaging.
- Support for Diverse Learners: Our tool was built with inclusivity in mind, our tools cater to a wide range of special needs. (Read more about this in Unicef’s blog post.)
- Affordable Solutions: Thanks to partnerships with governments and institutions we provide free reading materials to all users — even those on our free plan.
Looking Ahead: The Future of eLearning
Our mission to revolutionise eLearning doesn’t stop here. We’re continually innovating and expanding our impact. With partnerships already established in the Caribbean and LATAM, we’re excited to bring our platform to even more learners.
